Compare Your Options
Three Chamber vs. the agency, the freelancer, and doing it yourself.
Every growing business ends up choosing between the same four paths for content. Here's how they actually compare, cost, strategy, oversight, and speed, side by side.
How the four options actually stack up.
Not marketing claims, just what each path actually gives you.
| Three Chamber | Traditional Agency | Freelance Writer | DIY with ChatGPT | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | $497–$2,500, published tiers | $3,000–$10,000+ retainer | $50–$500 per piece, adds up fast | Free to ~$20, plus your time |
| Strategy behind each piece | Full research and roadmap, specific to your business, before anything is written | Yes, but slow and expensive to produce | Rarely, most write to a brief you provide | None, you're prompting one piece at a time |
| Who reviews before it publishes | Tom, personally, every piece | An account manager, sometimes junior | You, if you have time | Nobody |
| AI search (GEO) visibility | Built in from chamber one | Usually an afterthought, if offered at all | Not typically their expertise | Not considered |
| Speed to first published piece | About two weeks | Four to eight weeks, often longer | Depends entirely on the freelancer | Same day, but see the rows above |
| Contract length | Three month minimum, month to month after | Usually a six to twelve month retainer | Per project, no commitment | None |
| Ongoing reporting | Monthly, plain language, rankings and AI citations | Often included, buried in a long deck | Rarely included | None |
When something else might actually make more sense.
We'd rather tell you now than have you find out three months in.
You need paid media or web design too
We're content-only by design, no ads, no branding, no site builds. A full-service agency fits better if content is one piece of a much bigger ask.
You have real hours and know SEO
If you genuinely have several hours a week and the skill to research, write, and edit with rigor, DIY can work. Just budget the time honestly, most people underestimate it.
You need one piece, not an engine
A single one-off project, a pitch deck's worth of copy, a single case study, is a better fit for a freelancer than an ongoing subscription.
Questions about the comparison
Isn't AI-written content the same no matter who runs it?
No. The draft is one step in a longer process. What separates the outcome is the research and roadmap behind it and whether a person directs and reviews it before it ships. That's the part most DIY AI use skips entirely.
Why not just hire a freelancer for less?
A good freelancer can write well, but most work from a brief you write, not from original research into your market and competitors. You end up doing the strategy work yourself and paying per piece on top of it.
What if I already have an agency for other marketing?
That's common. Three Chamber runs alongside an existing agency relationship fine, we handle the content engine specifically and stay out of paid media, branding, or anything else they're already doing.
